German biotech firm opens $90M+ facility in Marlborough
After three years of work and nearly $100 million in investments, German pharmaceutical and laboratory equipment firm Sartorius opened its Center for BioProcess Innovation in Marlborough on Thursday.
The new 63,000-square-foot facility located at 200 Donald Lynch Blvd. houses research and service laboratories, offices, and facilities for customer demonstrations and training, according to a press release from the firm issued Thursday.
Currently hosting 50 Sartorius employees, the facility has room to accommodate more than 120 scientists and researchers. The goal of the new facility is to increase collaboration with customers and other external partners.
“The Greater Boston area is home to an unparalleled ecosystem that fosters innovation, collaboration, and growth,” Maurice Phelan, president of Sartorius North America and member of the WBJ 2024 Power 100, said in the press release. “As a global hub for biotechnology and life sciences, it offers access to world-renowned academic institutions, cutting-edge research facilities, and a highly skilled workforce. This is an ideal time and a great place to launch these capabilities which are so critical to the success of our customers.”
“Massachusetts is the global epicenter of life sciences because of companies like Sartorius,” Yvonne Hao, Massachusetts secretary of economic development, said in the press release. “We look forward to this company’s continued success, and we are grateful for their work ensuring that our communities have access to innovative therapeutic technologies.”
Sartorius now employs more than 100 employees at three work sites in Marlborough, with approximately 1,800 employees across North America.
